The Malaysian Poker Scene
All shapes.
All sizes.
Poker players, and poker venues, in Malaysia come in all shapes and all sizes.
What does Malaysia offer in terms of the domestic poker scene?
You have the single-table home games played over a dining table with casual plastic chips. You have the multiple-table poker venues played over speed felt tables with clay chips.
You have the regular home game groups, the same 6-8 faces on a friday night. You have the rooms with streams of poker players from all walks of life.
You have the rooms located in cheap digs. You have the rooms located in upmarket, exclusive, highly-secure residential accommodation (or in commercial set-ups).
There’s a wide variety of places to play with, as well as people to play with. On the one hand, you will have the smaller fly-by-night groups with small player pools renting cheap places to play. On the other extreme, you have Sanctuary, Residency, Terracotta and Haven, as the four premier rooms in Malaysia to play at, complete with multiple poker tables, Paulson chips, and a full-strength team of dealers and ushers.
What are players in Malaysia like?
Like mostly everywhere else in the world, there is a wide range of playing styles present. Tight to passive players. Loose to aggressive players. Players who are just starting out, as well as players with deep experience.
The game in Malaysia is probably softer than most other countries, but that only means that it’s a softer game that you can hone your skills / crush.
Where are poker rooms in Malaysia mostly located at?
Most of the poker rooms in Malaysia are located in the Klang Valley area, with about 10-15 rooms operating at present throughout Malaysia. Most rooms are single-table operations, with infrequent or irregular sessions (read: 1-3 times a week).
How do you get an invite into poker rooms in Malaysia?
You have to know someone. That’s key. Alternatively, you can write in to us at kl.poker.room@gmail.com and we will make the formal introductions for you.
What about options for online play in Malaysia?
Malaysia, like other nations, has a burgeoning group of online grinders, those who can profitably grind poker 4-8 hours a day. The sites of choice include:
1SPoker http://www.1spoker.com
Dafa Poker http://www.dafapoker.com
Full Tilt Poker http://www.fulltiltpoker.com
PokerKing http://www.pokerking.me
PokerStars http://www.pokerstars.com
Relaunch of pokerevents.wordpress.com
This is a relaunch of the original http://pokerevents.wordpress.com site. After 2 years on the web, it’s time for a breath of fresh air. This website has served as a gathering point for a legion of poker players in Malaysia, and hopefully will be a port of call for a future generation of poker players in Malaysia.
Whether you are new to the game, or a seasoned veteran.
Whether Malaysia is your home, or a temporary haven.
Whether you prefer to play online, or play over the felt.
Whether relaxing in the company of friends, or being competitive with every card dealt.
We hope you find http://pokerevents.wordpress.com a good and useful guide to the Malaysian poker scene.

Sanctuary’s largest tournament ever took place on the 19th of May. The event largely went without a hitch* even as we handled the last-minute additions (apologies to anyone that we couldn’t incorporate into the event due to capacity constraints).
After 3 hours and 45 minutes of play (excluding breaks), the tournament was decided on the 15th blind level with a heads-up match between Sam Y and Afiq that saw the chip lead oscillate from Sam to Afiq (Afiq’s 99 dominating Sam’s 77), before returning to Sam courtesy of a turned straight. Sam took it home from there with his aggressive play.

Our next awesome Movie Outing: Iron Man 2 – 1st May 2010
Free tickets available, on request, for a Saturday afternoon showing of Iron Man 2
We will provide exact timing details closer to the date. It should be approximately around 12 noon-1pm for a Saturday showing
2nd May: We present the Michael S. Heads-Up Tournament :)
We fully support the aspirations and endeavours of our members. To this end, we are going to host Michael S.’s Heads-Up Tournament at Sanctuary, and we hope you can join our fun and games. Prepare for a Sunday afternoon “slaughter”
Note: Side plug – Michael S.’s band Ask Me Again’s English debut is on Hitz.Fm MET10 at 4pm and Ayamas debut and the interview on the Champur Charts on Fly.Fm at 7pm onwards, this Sunday (25th April). We will be tuning in at Sanctuary!
Here’s how the Heads-Up tournament generally works. You pair off, in a face-off, against another opponent in a game of NLHE. One person walks away
We will run it as double-elimination, so you will get, in effect, 2 lives. Lose twice and you are outttt….
Buy-in: To be decided by Michael S.
Starting stack: To be decided by Michael S.
Duration of each blind level: To be decided by Michael S. Should be in the 6-10 minutes range.
Prize payout: To be decided by Michael S.
Player cap: 24 (although we may be able to extend it out to 32).
Here’s how the process will work:
1. All participant names will be individually assigned to separate tournament cards.
2. The tournament cards will be randomly shuffled and paired up.
3. After the round, players will be ranked by performance and separated into loss brackets, i.e. those who have lost none, and those who have lost 1 round. (All who have lost 2 rounds are eliminated).
4. They will again be randomly paired starting from the top-ranked player downwards, with the provision that a player cannot play the same person twice in that bracket, unless they have played all the other players in that bracket.
24th April: Sanctuary’s Weekly Tournament

Sign-up by informing a KLPR host/hostess or emailing us at kl(dot)poker(dot)room(at)gmail(dot)com

Step 2 Satellites will be held on 25th April (Sunday), 2nd May (Sunday) and 9th May (Sunday).
Note: Depending on demand, we will also hold Step 2 Satellites on other days, provided it does not conflict with our weekly Saturday tournament.

Key update: KLPR is streamlining its blind structures. We have done away with our previous turbo, regular and deep blind structures, and replaced with 2 structures: The non-ante blind structure and the ante blind structure. Turbo and non-turbo tournaments are only distinguished by the duration of the blind levels. The standard structure, or regular structure, will carry a blind duration of 20 minutes.
Frequently-asked questions:
1. What happens if a player wins the package but chooses not to go?
Then the 20k cash is for him or her to keep
You can spend the 20k cash any way you want
2. What happens if a player wins a Step 2 ticket but elects not to play in a Step 2, or a Step 2 satellite is not held due to insufficient numbers?
Then, after 23rd May, all outstanding holders of a Step 2 ticket will receive 1,700 cash for each Step 2 ticket for them to keep

Saam takes the title of 2009 Malaysian Poker Champion!
At our recently concluded 2009 Malaysian Poker Championship which hosted a field of 23 players, Saam Nee proved his mettle by winning yet another KLPR tournament. The final hand was Saam’s 27 against Eric’s JA on a board of A22. The 11,500 cash payout was divided among the top 5 players.
1st: Saam (4,600)
2nd: Eric (2,760)
3rd: Hadi (1,840)
4th: Andreas (1,380)
5th: Benjamin (920)
Marie… a name historically associated with royalty (Marie Antoinette, Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Princess Marie Jose of Belgium – the last Queen of Italy)… now also claims another royal title, that of Poker Princess.
The tournament was decided after between 4 hours and 20 minutes to 4 hours and 40 minutes of playing time (excluding breaks) as it ended on the 14th blind level with blinds of 3,000/6,000 and antes of 500. The stacks were equal at some points, with about 45,000 per stack, and during the last blind level, neither had a stack larger than 8x Big Blind when they were equal.
The early lead was with Marie Ann who eliminated Ling as Bubble Girl when Marie Ann’s KK held up against Ling’s Ax. An AQ gave Vicky the lead with a pre-flop all in against Marie Ann’s A9. Stacks eventually equalised again, and the lead passed back to Marie Ann as she chipped away at Vicky’s stack. A pre-flop all-in by Vicky with King High vs Marie Ann’s Queen high sealed the deal for Marie Ann as her 8 paired the board.
For their efforts, both Poker Princess Marie Ann and Queen Victoria took home Burberry bags to hold their future royal shopping and tiaras

13th Dec: The Search for… Malaysia’s next top Supermodel? No, it’s the search for Malaysia’s Poker Princess :)
[This is a placeholder notice, subject to amendment]
Pink Haven proudly presents… the Search for Malaysia’s Poker Princess! This exclusive freeroll will tell us who’s the best female poker player for 2009. The first place winner of this exclusive freeroll will win for herself a Gucci handbag, courtesy of Pink Haven. 2nd place will receive a Burberry handbag, while 3rd place walks away with a gorgeous Burberry wristlet, the perfect clubbing accessory. More prizes will be given away. Everyone’s a winner.
This is a freeroll – there is no entry fee. We are just feeling generous this Christmas. We are targeting to hold this 1-day event on the 13th of December (Sunday). To qualify:
1. You need to be female, aged between 12 and 120.
2. You will need to complete a player profile.
Don’t worry about your level of poker knowledge. We will have one of our seasoned veterans of the game coach you as a group about 1 hour before the start of the tournament on the concepts of starting hands, odds, and position. Those who are familiar can skip the coaching session.
To secure your place, as a first step, send an email to kl(dot)poker(dot)room(at)gmail(dot)com.
Because of the likely queue for slots, we will award spaces based on a mixture of personality and your competency – we want to hear from you if you think you are personable enough to warm people’s hearts (and tell us why so!), if you warm the keyboards with your fingers playing Pokerstars, or if you warm the seats at Crown playing live games.
So, if you haven’t found a special gift for your girlfriend / loved one this christmas, tell her that she can earn her dream present playing poker! (And she will probably understand why you come to play at KLPR so often
)
Want to be generous to a good friend? Teach her how to play poker!
Out of gift ideas this Christmas? Why don’t you suggest that she play some poker!
Now, girls, who was it that said learning how to play poker doesn’t pay?

25th Nov Satellite Winners: Daniel does it again! :)
Vicky’s comment: “Daniel is a luck box.”
The satellite held on 25th Nov was won by Daniel, who banks in additional cash from his extra seat. He started strong with a raise on the first hand and never looked back. The other players suffered because of Vicky’s comment which prompted Daniel to try his luck again at the Satellites
The other seat was won by Eddie. Congratulations to both.
Update to seat policy: If you have Main Event Seats, they are now transferable. Yes, you may make private arrangements and transfer your Main Event seat to another player. Alternatively, you can still return the seat to the Room in return for cash.

Nespresso Machine…
After hearing the initial input from a few of you (thanks for the comments offline and offline), the Room has decided to get a Nespresso machine…
Next step: Where in Singapore / Hong Kong can you get a machine from? Details please!
The Espresso Machine project…
Given that one espresso machine can cost anywhere between RM6k to RM15k, it’s time for the community to pull together and put on their thinking caps.
1. Where can we source for espresso machines?
2. Based on your experience (or others’ experience), what’s the best espresso machine – one that will make approx. 20 cups per day?
3. Because making a good cup of coffee requires not just a machine but also skill & experience, whom among you have had experience making espressos from a machine? We’ll designate a Chief Espresso Officer so that we can transmit knowledge among room members.
Here are some brands to consider: Nuova Simonelli Appia, Gaggia Baby D, Gaggia Baby Twin, La Scala Butterfly, Rancilio Silvia, Grimac, La Marzocco, Vibiemme DomoBar.
As with anything KLPR does, we will approach this with a very analytical approach, perform cost-benefit analysis, determine the best option, before proceeding to implement.

17 Dec: Avatar! Most hyped movie ever? You be the judge. Limited free tickets available.
On a lovely Thursday, 2 days before the 2009 Malaysian Poker Championship, we will be giving out limited free tickets for a screening of James Cameron’s latest epic, Avatar. Probably the most hyped movie ever made – certainly the most expensive at US$230 million – the movie chronicles an epic conflict on a far-away world called Pandora, where humans and the native species of Pandora, the Na’vi, engage in war over the planet’s resources and existence.
We will be giving away 10 free tickets to this screening. RSVP by leaving a comment, sending an email to kl(dot)poker(dot)room(at)gmail(dot)com or by informing the KLPR team.
Date: 17 December 2009 (Thursday)
Time: Approximately 730pm slot
Venue: GSC @ either MidValley or The Gardens
SPOILER AHEAD – What is the movie about? Don’t read if you want to be kept completely mystified until the screening..
The tale revolves around Jake Sully, a former U.S. Marine who was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down in combat on Earth. Jake is selected to participate in the Avatar programme, which will enable him to walk. Jake travels to Pandora, a lush jungle-covered extraterrestrial moon filled with incredible life forms, some beautiful, many terrifying, and which is also home to the Na’vi, a sentient humanoid race, who are considered primitive, yet are more physically capable than humans. The Na’vi stand over three metres tall, with tails and sparkling blue skin, and they live in harmony with their unspoiled world. As humans encroach deeper into Pandora’s forests in search of valuable minerals, the Na’vi unleash their formidable warrior abilities to defend their threatened existence. The Avatar programme refers to genetically-bred human-Na’vi hybrids. Humans are unable to breath Pandora’s air, but through their Avatar bodies, humans can explore Pandora. Jake is sent deep into Pandora’s jungles as a scout for the soldiers that will follow, and thus encounters many of Pandora’s beauties and dangers. During his sojourn into the jungles of Pandora, he meets a young Na’vi female, Neytiri. Over time, Jake integrates himself into the Na’vi clan, and begins to fall in love with Neytiri. As a result, Jake finds himself caught between the military-industrial forces of Earth and the Na’vi, forcing him to choose sides in an epic battle that will decide the fate of earth and the Na’vi.
3 Dec: Ninja Assassin. Another reason why your mother told you to stop playing with knives ;)
Hot hoochie-mama, it’s a movie from the Wachowski Brothers this time!
Limited free tickets (up to 10) available for a 3rd December screening of Ninja Assassin (as if Ninjas do anything else other than assassinate people, but who are we to question the wise film-makers…)
Date: 3rd December (Thursday)
Time: Approximately 730pm
Venue: GSC @ either MidValley or The Gardens

Ta-dah… the decision has been made… (and lots of thanks to Vicky a.k.a. Madam Loh!)
Thank you to everyone, particularly KC and Keong for providing illuminating insights on the PS3 Slim and Wii (in the end, KC was used as the advocate for PS3 Slim and Keong was used as the advocate for Wii).
And the winner is…

Making an appearance at your Room
and…

Also making an appearance at your Room
Yes, that’s right, we have decided to get both in. The PS3 Slim will be arriving first, followed in time by the Wii.
The decision was made on the following basis:
1. The even number of votes for both the PS3 Slim and Wii. Most of the votes for the PS3 Slim centred around its capability while most of the votes for the Wii centred around its popularity. The PS3 Slim and Wii combination is pretty much like a standard KLPR player – talented, capable, yet very sociable and popular
2. Madam Loh, ahem! Vicky, is introducing her xBox into the room. This was a nice gesture, and we thought to ourselves, oh what the heck, let’s just squeeze a little bit more out of the budget since we can end up with a 3-console system. Vicky, *thank you*.
Danny and Vivian helped the Room set up the LCD yesterday (Danny is tremendously handy with a screwdriver
) and Danny is procuring both the PS3 Slim and Wii – the PS3 Slim will be in sometime today (possibly at night). We will leave it to Danny to decide on how it’s all arranged and set up.
As for room layout, the sofa will be replaced with Beanie Bags to make room for temporary space for Wii games
From the Room to all of you – Enjoy!
Yew Thong and Vicky, the Room’s Bowling King and Queen
In poker, there are always “tells”.
That’s the same for real-life. Vicky and Yew Thong were the members of the Room who appeared keenest on bowling. Sure enough, the 2 of them racked up enough strikes and points between them to respectively lead their teams.
Given that the members sit around on the tables so much, they sure moved smoothly on the lanes
Bean powered his way down the lane starting with some initial strikes, and Hin “Mr Shark’s Fin” also proved adept at sliding it down the big hole.
Those who turned up for the session included: Bean, Chi Yung, Danny, Eric, Hin, Mark, Sun, Vicky, Vivian, Yew Thong.
Team 1 comprising Bean, Chi Yung, Hin, Mark, Vicky, scored about 560+ to defeat Team 2 comprising Danny, Eric, Sun, Vivian, Yew Thong, which scored about 480+. Given that the potential score is 1500, guess the difference is not really that great
Before the session, we had dinner at Co Do (above Little Vietnam) at MidValley, and we were joined by Victor and Keong. Great food, excellent company.

The gateway to good vietnamese cuisine
Bowling session at Cosmic Bowl, Midvalley @ 730pm today
Pink Haven will be open from 9pm onwards.
Separately, there will be a bowling session at Cosmic Bowl, Midvalley @ 730pm onwards today.

WSOP 2009 Final Table: Screening at KLPR

Saam says this guy is just warming up the seat for him
We will be screening the WSOP 2009 Final Table tonight (if time / facilities permit) (right after the bowling session).
It’s time to get your Pokerstars account!
Don’t leave it to the very last minute. Start signing up for your Pokerstars account if you haven’t already done so.
Why should you do it now?
1. The Room’s going to provide online options soon enough, and the first major online option will be the online satellites for Main Event seats at the 2009 Malaysian Poker Championship held on 19th and 20th of December.
2. Going forward, the Room will supply Pokerstars credit to all players who require it for participation in KLPR’s online tournaments. You don’t have to worry about securing any Pokerstars credit.
KLPR, Powered by You. And Dell.

Connectivity has arrived at KLPR
As most of you already know, we have already installed an in-house laptop at KLPR, complete with wireless broadband connectivity. For this quarter, and the next quarter (i.e. 1st quarter 2010), the reasons for the laptop are:
1. To facilitate interbank transfers to (and from) the Room account.
2. To provide a working tool for Room members who may have work-related tasks to perform.
3. To allow players to go online to play Pokerstars, etc. *while they are not playing at the table*.
4. To allow other general surfing.
At all times, the usage of the Room laptop will be based on the order of importance as defined above. We retain the policy of no laptops at the playing table. You should not remove the wireless broadband devices from the Room. At all times, do seek permission of the Room to use the laptop and *do not install any software on the laptop without prior authorisation of the Room*.
There’s another reason for the introduction of the laptop, but that reason dovetails with a large-scale multi-location roll-out that is taking place in about 6-7 months time (during 2nd quarter 2010). Believe me, you will be pretty amazed when that roll-out takes place. It will be a definite “Oh wow!” moment
Right now, our team is working on the implementation plans for KLPR, Pink Haven and the code-named Sanctuary, Indochine, Mountain, Poseidon and Keris projects for 1st quarter 2010 and 2nd quarter 2010, so forgive us if we (particularly Mark) are sometimes a bit distracted while preparing for the future. Each project is designed to be a landscape-shifting event in itself, and all of them need to be fully completed before the full roll-out can commence.
Part 1 of the new KLPR entertainment/gaming system

Sorry, Thomas, the girl doesn't come with the TV
This is the easy part. The second part is more complicated and we are currently conducting surveys on the gaming platform we are going to use. The early leading contender is the Wii system.
Macau Magic
Was there something in the air at Macau? Recently, Saam and Thomas went to Macau together, slept together (hopefully separate beds), played at the tables together, and each of them came back and claimed an 11th place finish.
Thomas claimed an 11th place finish at the 80k event, and Saam claimed an 11th place finish at the 160k event.
What did they do? Apart from any x-rated activities that we have to shield our eyes and ears from, what was the Macau magic that spread over them?
P.S. Danny was there too, but by his own account (and we have reason to believe it’s true), he didn’t sleep with them. So he made do with a 29th place finish at the 160k event
A fine performance by KLPR: Results of Genting’s RM160k tournament
Eddie cashed in 5th place (his second final table).
Saam bubbled at 11th place.
Terry (our former 1/2 player) was at 12th place.
Hin battled it out to 13th place.
Vicky defeated 329 other persons to arrive at 21st place
There’s always a positive way to look at things ![]()
Danny beat the bubble to make it to 29th place.
Daniel just finished outside of the money at 36th place.
Eric and Andrew also made the final 90 players. At one point, Eric, Vicky and Daniel were all playing at the same table, with Vicky and Daniel side-by-side for a large part of the session. Hin and Saam were also playing side-by-side at the same table, both flanking the dealer.
So KLPR put in yet another credible performance. Though I didn’t make it to the next day (sigh, missed Day 2 for the first time in 4 Genting tournaments), I was really happy and proud of the way the Room handled themselves, and how collectively, the Room played their hearts out for each and every hand, win or lose. You guys did great, and congratulations to all.
p.s. We are going to replace out the KLPR patches with polo Ts that Daniel will look into.
p.p.s. We have been receiving a lot of membership requests – which is usually the case after a major live event – please bear in mind our Room’s membership policy re: bringing them for one of our non-poker events first. There’s a bowling night and a clubbing night this week alone, so those will be good avenues for them to get to know the Room.
It’s Bowling Night, Time to Fight, See Who Can Roll a Ball, at MidValley Shopping Mall..

Thomas' bowling friends tended to buy underwear that was too large for them...
Date: 11th Nov (Wednesday)
Time: 7pm
p.s. I wanted to choose BSC, but Vicky’s kindergarden took over the bowling alley

26th Dec: KLPR & Pink Haven Year-End Christmas Party
KLPR & Pink Haven Year-End Christmas Party
Date: 26th December (day after Christmas)
Venue: To be decided
Start time: 7pm
We shall do a Secret Santa session. Compulsorily, everyone must bring a date (we don’t care if you are a guy and you are bringing another guy). The date must not be a blood relative (so Eugene can’t say Ling qualifies as a date).
The Gambler: You got to know when to hold ‘em, and when to fold ‘em…
On a warm summer’s evenin’ on a train bound for nowhere,
I met up with the gambler; we were both too tired to sleep.
So we took turns a starin’ out the window at the darkness
‘Til boredom overtook us, and he began to speak.
He said, “Son, I’ve made my life out of readin’ people’s faces,
And knowin’ what their cards were by the way they held their eyes.
so if you don’t mind my sayin’, I can see you’re out of aces.
For a taste of your whiskey I’ll give you some advice.”
So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow.
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light.
And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression.
Said, “If you’re gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right.
You got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you’re sittin’ at the table.
There’ll be time enough for countin’ when the dealin’s done.
Ev’ry gambler knows that the secret to survivin’
Is knowin’ what to throw away and knowing what to keep.
‘Cause ev’ry hand’s a winner and ev’ry hand’s a loser,
And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep.”
When he’d finished speakin’, he turned back towards the window,
Crushed out his cigarette and faded off to sleep.
And somewhere in the darkness the gambler, he broke even.
But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep.
You got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you’re sittin’ at the table.
There’ll be time enough for countin’ when the dealin’s done.
Hi everyone,
Let’s discuss Genting strategy. Please note that this is not a prescription for a playing style, but just observations so that we can all share thoughts and formulate strategies.
These are the underlying principles for our discussion:
1. Do not complain about uncles & aunties playing it. They are a fact. You can’t do anything about it. Complaining doesn’t mean that they disappear. You won’t improve yourself if you complain about the uncles & aunties factor. I think it’s good that Saam can get past the fact that the auntie rivered him. However he played that hand, the auntie would have called him and done the same thing. It was her day, her time.
2. Do not gripe about cooler hands. Again, they are a fact. You can’t do anything about it. I have had the best hand and had it busted on the river. And at the same time, I have had the worst hand and taken out the best hand (my infamous 55 vs KK vs AA… darn it, why couldn’t it have happenned again with my 55 vs AA last Sunday!). I have benefited from having had AA and someone else having KK – my very first tournament. It happens.
What we want to focus on for these coming few days is to discuss observations, understand different strategies, with the ultimate aim of positioning as many of ourselves to cash in the event. You can discuss online, in your email groups, on this blog, our private facebook group, or even offline across the table.
These are my personal observations / thoughts thus far. I know we all have different ways of playing it, but I believe that there are 2 camps, and it’s important to remember / bear these in mind, particularly if you are playing the Genting poker challenge for the first few times (this weekend’s will be my 4th time).
There are 2 “strategy” camps:
1. “Survive to make Day 2″ – Some find this really difficult given the rapidly crushing blind levels. Under this strategy, you are not going to build up a large stack going into Day 2. You are going to lose a few blinds, and you will probably hover around the same level, and maybe double up once or at most twice. Don’t expect to have a 100k stack.
I know who’s (generally) on this strategy: Mark, Vicky, Joseph, Eric, Samuel.
2. “Go big to build a stack on Day 2″ – Steal in mid-game, steal often. Add to your stack over time to have a credible stack. Play your position. The best example, the one that everyone remembers (even non-KLPR members) was Eugene. He had a perfect table read, and he dominated the tight table he was on. Once you have a large stack, you are in a very dominant position to finish well. More than half of large-stack finishers (i.e. those with the top third of chips) will finish in the top 30 or above.
I know who’s (generally) on this strategy: Eugene, Daniel, Michael, Lee, Saam.
My personal opinion on the 2 strategies:
I find Strategy #1 not very difficult, but maybe it’s my boring “oldie” personality, I am happy to sit patiently through 3 hours reading a book all by myself =) I think survival just requires patience. Contrary to popular belief, you do not want to play against the clock and slow things down. You want to speed things up and see as many hands as possible. You need to find good hands that you can either take down the blinds, or build a stack on.
So far, I am not a fan of Strategy #2 because I think I have benefited from Strategy #1 with my previous final table finishes at Genting and Macau, so I am content with Strategy #1 (though I know I need to work on many different aspects of my game to make it more consistent).
That aside, the main reason that I am not a fan of Strategy #2 is because I have seen so many stack reversals between Day 1 and Day 2, i.e. large stack gets knocked out. For my 8th place finish, I think I had about a 20-30k stack. For Thomas’ 11th place finish, he also had about a 20k-30k stack. I believe Joseph was similarly stacked for the last event, in which he then came from behind with his card rush to hit 8th place (My goodness, I think our room in total has at least 8 Genting final table finishers for this year alone! That’s pretty awesome if you think about it!). Eric was also reasonably stacked, not large-stacked. Yes, the odds are against you when you are facing the 60-100k stacks, but I always feel that you need to qualify for the starting line first.
This is what I suggest us discussing / debating so that we are mentally prepared. Generally, I have observed (you can add to this or correct me if I am wrong):
1. It’s impossible to steal during the early blinds (i.e. 100/200, 200/400) unless you are prepared to risk 8-10x the big blind. People think of the number rather than the bet size relative to the blind.
2. It’s easier to steal during the mid-blinds (i.e. 500/1000, 1000/2000). This is possibly cos people are tightening up to position themselves to make Day 2.
3. Once you are in Day 2, at the start, it’s mainly pre-flop shoving. Watch people pick a spot, pick a pair of cards, as the short-stackers are gunning to double up to put themselves in contention.
4. As Day 2 wears on, it tightens up again, as people are positioning themselves to make top 30.
5. Once you are in the top 30, everything’s fluid cos there are those who are content to have made it and thus are going loose aggressive, and there are those who are actively positioning themselves to make final table, even if it’s just 8th-10th place.
I think anyone’s playing strategy has to bear the above in mind. What are your thoughts? Share your observations and opinions. What will you do differently compared to what you did last weekend?
You can share your thoughts in the comments box below, on our private facebook group, or across the table. Let’s start debating strategies so that we have better perspective on the event.
We really made a weekend out of it, with the following KLPR and Pink Haven players making it through the preliminary flights to qualify for the Sunday semi-final (apologies for any omissions).
Of the 98 players (out of the initial 400 across 4 flights of 100), 14 of them were KLPR and Pink Haven players:
Chi Yung, Jeffrey, Jerry, Joo, Lee, Lim, Mark, Rueben, Sam, Samuel, Thomas, Vicky, Yew Thong, Yong.
Lee cashed in 5th place. His K8 lost to a K4 when a 4 hit the board.
Thomas bubbled in 11th place.
Jeffrey got eliminated in 14th place, losing a hand to Lee.
Yew Thong, built up a stack but unfortunately got eliminated in 24th place when his AT pre-flop shove got called by 99, and the flop turned up JJ9.
Credible finish by Chi Yung who also built up a stack but on a board of KQ3, where Chi Yung held KQ, the turn came an A and a river 6, and his 2 pair got eliminated by a slowplayed set of Aces.
Pink Haven: Thomas, the new caretaker
In spite of his busy schedule crushing live games and online tournaments, Thomas will manage Pink Haven over the next 2 months. Thomas will keep you posted on games.
Note: Thomas is now officially known as Genting no. 11 =) In view of his outstanding performance at the Genting tournament.
Appointment of KLPR Marketing Director
We have appointed “A” to head up KLPR’s marketing activities. Her broad remit is to design our go-to-market approach including our overall themes. For example, every quarter, KLPR (and Pink Haven) has had different themes, and our activities are adjusted to suit the themes. “A” has been contributing silently in the background, feeding back information and designing our themes though she does not attend our game sessions. Usually once “A” has decided on a theme, she will leave it to us to implement it.
For quarter 1 July – 30 Sept 2009, we were in a “Community” theme, hence the concentration / preponderance of certain activities to support that theme e.g. movie nights, etc.
For quarter 1 Oct 2009 to 31 Dec 2009, we are currently in a “You” theme, also known as our “Develop One’s Self” theme, hence the concentration of activities surrounding the improvement of one’s gameplay e.g. promoting individual hand or tournament discussions, possibly a “lecture” series will be introduced during this quarter.
Every quarter, she will be responsible for designing our new theme, or mantra, for that quarter.
How important are themes? Why do we spend so much time on designing, and implementing, a theme?
Well, themes are an important differentiator as they help us carry a consistent message to all our members as well as the outside world. They provide a cohesive theme around which everyone can gather. It’s a very subtle effect. When people ask about places to play, they can describe physical places easily. But themes are what makes a place more “memorable”, and that in itself, is a marketing strategy. Themes are also used to drive changes in policies, or shift member behaviour. If you are looking to shape overall community behaviour, the implementation of a theme helps do so. A direct policy change is always more difficult to push through than a theme change. Once a theme takes hold, then a room participant may not recognize it, but his / her perception / behaviour is being ever so slowly, subtly adjusted over time by the consistent implementation of a particular theme.
Think of a theme as the sail on a boat. We are all passengers on the boat, and the sail is a common visual item that we can all gaze upon and follow as it takes us together in new directions.
Genting Satellite: Conquered by Andrew and Mr “Four-ple” Sam
Andrew and Mr “Four-ple” Sam won the Genting Satellite held on 27th Oct
Congrats!
p.s. Sam is busy expanding our vocabulary. You want to double up, triple up? Well, Sam wants to “four-ple” up or “five-ple” up (though it is Vicky that does it more consistently). You want to steal a pot? According to Sam, a pot gets “stealer-ed” not stolen
25th Oct: NLHE tournament results – Joseph sweeps the competition
NLHE tournament, 10,000 starting stack, 12-minute blind levels.
1st: Joseph (1,000)
2nd: Keong (600)

25th Oct: NLHE + PLO8 Championship
Casino executive Robert Turner first brought Omaha into a casino setting when he introduced the game to Bill Boyd who offered it as a game at the Las Vegas Golden Nugget Casino (calling it “Nugget Hold’em”). Many years down the road, Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo (or Omaha 8, as it’s commonly known) has now arrived at KLPR. To celebrate this, we will be holding our first No-Limit Hold’Em (NLHE) + PLO8 championship (which are 2 components of H.O.R.S.E. events).
Firstly, the difference between Omaha Hi-Lo and NLHE are these:
(1) Each player is dealt four cards to his private hand instead of two.
(2) At showdown, each player’s hand is the best five-card hand he can make from exactly three of the five cards on the board, plus exactly two of his own cards. Unlike Texas hold ‘em, a player cannot play four or five of the cards on the board with fewer than two of his own, nor can a player use three or four hole cards to disguise a strong hand.
(3) The pot is split into 2 parts – (a) The one with the “High” hand (same as NLHE) and (b) The one with the “Low” hand. Straights, flushes all don’t count for a “Low” hand. A2345 is the nut Low. Only numbers below 8 count towards a “Low” hand thus the board needs to have 3 cards with 8 or below.
Everything else is the same e.g. the betting rounds and layout of community cards are identical.
Secondly, the NLHE + PLO8 tournament details.
Date: 25th October (Sunday)
Start time: 2pm
Starting chip stack varies depending on buy-in amount
100+30 buy-in: 5,000 chips
200+30 buy-in: 11,000 chips (10% chip bonus)
300+30 buy-in: 13,000 chips (20% chip bonus)
Rebuys are permitted during the first twelve (12) levels of the tournament at 100+30 per 5,000 chips.
Blind duration: 10 minutes.
Play alternates between No-Limit Hold’Em and Omaha Hi-Lo every 10 minutes.
Effectively, you will have 20 minutes at any particular blind level, so be prepared for the long grind. Rebuys can be performed up to 2 hours into the tournament.

A truly rare event happenned at KLPR yesterday. We have all seen straight flushes vs quads, quads vs full houses, etc.
But yesterday – we saw 5 players in a 10-handed game get dealt:
UTG (Sun) – AA
Cutoff + 1 (Bean) – KK
Cutoff (Hin) – QQ
Button (Eugene) – TT
Small Blind (Joseph) – JJ
[and just for completeness, Neil folded JAo on BB]
AA limped, KK raised, QQ called, TT re-raised, JJ shoved all-in (more than met the minimum raise), AA called, KK re-raised all-in, QQ called… and TT, on the button, pondered for awhile before folding it off.
Turn came the Q and Hin took down one of the largest pots in KLPR’s history.
But what’s the probability of the above outcome happenning?
The math may be fuzzy, but the probability of a player receiving a pair for the starting 2 cards in game is 0.45% so the probability of seeing an AA on a 10-handed table is 4.5%. The probability of seeing AA, KK, QQ, JJ and TT? 0.0000016 or 0.00016%. That’s 16 times in 10,000,000 or about 1.6 times in 1,000,000.
A one-in-a-million event? You be the judge

12th Oct: Updates to Flexible Buy-ins for KLPR’s SnGs
Hi everyone,
You may have noticed that we have implemented flexibility for buy-ins in some of our SnGs (not all). For some of our SnGs, we permit players to choose the level of buy-in they are comfortable with.
There are 2 methods, and we have trialled the first method already. This is a good time for us to share with you the second method.
Method 1: Tiered prize pool
Basic principle: A player’s chosen level of buy-in corresponds to the level of prizes he or she is eligible for.
How it works: A player trades-off a lower buy-in in return for a smaller prize pool and paying a higher relative fixed cost element. A player gains the flexibility in return for incurring these additional “costs”. Buy-in more and gain access to larger prize pools.
Example: Assume a 9-man tournament has 3 players buying in for 100+30, 3 players buying in for 200+30 and 3 players buying in for 300+30. There are thus 3 prize pools.
Prize pool #1 is worth 9×100 = 900, with 9 players contesting it. The 3x 100+30, 3x 200+30 and 3x 300+30.
Prize pool #2 is worth 6×100 = 600, with 6 players contesting it. The 3x 200+30 and 3x 300+30.
Prize pool #3 is worth 3×100 = 300, with 3 players contesting it. The 3x 300+30.
Restrictions with this method: Rebuys and add-ons are not permitted. However, Method 2 allows rebuys and add-ons.
Method 2: Tiered chip stack
Basic principle: A player’s chosen level of buy-in corresponds to his or her starting chip stack.
How it works: A player trades-off a lower buy-in in return for a smaller starting chip stack and paying a higher relative fixed cost element. As per above, a player gains the flexibility in return for incurring these additional “costs”. Buy-in more and gain access to a larger starting stack.
Example: Where the starting blind is 5/10, i.e. you can buy-in as:
100+30: 1,000 chips (7.69 chips per RM1)
200+30: 2,200 chips (2,000 chips plus a 10% chip bonus) (9.57 chips per RM1)
300+30: 3,600 chips (3,000 chips plus a 20% chip bonus) (10.91 chips per RM1)
with 100+30 for each 1,000 chip rebuy during the 1st 3 levels, and 100+30 for the final add-on at the end of the 3rd level.
Under this scenario, all players participate in a single prize pool.
12th Oct: Korea vs Malaysia… it’s a draw! :)
Korea vs Malaysia… not in badminton but in SnG.
Joseph, a new addition to the Room, tied with Sam for our Sunday evening SnG.
Position: Name (Payout)
1st/2nd: “New” Joseph (600 – split the 1,200 with Sam Nee)
1st/2nd: Sam Nee (600 – split the 1,200 with “New” Joseph)
3rd: Justin (180)
4th: Joseph
5th: Daniel
6th: Hin (420)*
7th: Mark
8th: Ken Peng
9th: Yew Thong
*Hin’s 6th place payout was higher than the 3rd place payout as there were 9 players in the 1st tier prize pool, 6 players in the 2nd tier prize pool and 3 players in the 3rd tier prize pool. Hin participated in all 3 prize pools and finished 3rd in the 2nd tier prize pool and 1st in the 3rd tier prize pool.
KLPR Contest / Reality Show: Find Vicky a Boyfriend
Welcome to the newest reality show: Find Vicky a boyfriend.
Because she spends ages with us here, Vicky has tasked KLPR to help find her a boyfriend. The boyfriend should:
(1) Be able to play poker.
(2) Be able to fold hands to her if they are on the same table.
(3) Be able to cook, clean, run errands for her… as she may be busy playing poker.
(4) Be tech-savvy… so that he can fix her computer in case she needs to play online poker.
(5) Be beefy and muscular… so that he can protect her when she walks home with her poker winnings.
(6) Be bisexual… so that he can flirt with other male players, thus distracting them and giving her an advantage on the poker table.
(7) Have nice strong hands… so that he can riffle the poker deck competently when they play heads-up on their romantic date nights.
P.S. Before you fall of the chair giggling uncontrollably, this is just a placeholder notice for our next notification. We did not win the rights to host the “Find Vicky a Boyfriend” reality show (but we are not going to cry about it in the papers unlike some local model celebrity).
Dear members,
We have grown to the point where we are considering recruiting a full-time KLPR Guru. If you have potential candidates in mind (either yourself or others), please contact Mark at kl(dot)poker(dot)room(at)gmail(dot)com or in person. At the moment, we are literally exhausted from the various activities, be it planning & executing events, refurbishing the Room, etc. Would like to lighten the load on the various volunteers supporting the Room at the moment.
Role: KLPR Guru a.k.a. Room-Supervisor-cum-Project-Manager-cum-Personal-Assistant
“There can be only one” – Jet Li, in “The One”
Job scope:
(1) Participates in strategic planning activities for the Room.
(2) Manages all key functions of the Room (Membership, budgeting, marketing processes, etc).
(3) Supervises all Room openings & closings, events and projects.
(4) Supervises Room staff, including dealers. Handles dealer recruitment and training.
(5) Executes any planned or ad-hoc task required for the Room.
Basically, the KLPR Guru will look after all Room activities and assets, across geographies (whether Klang Valley or outside Malaysia), under guidance from the KLPR management committee.
Compensation and benefits:
(1) Salary plus incentive structure.
(2) Reimbursement of all out-of-pocket expenses related to the job e.g. travel & accommodation to our overseas Rooms.
Your key benefit:
(1) You will get guidance and first-hand-insight on strategic planning, business modelling, branding & marketing, membership development, membership communication, financial budgeting programmes. You will understand from start-to-finish our decision-making processes, cost-benefit analysis, methods to manage and drive change, etc. Learn and practice how to analyse issues and craft solutions.
(2) As Mark will be handing over KLPR sometime between August 2010 and August 2011, and depending significantly on your on-the-job performance, you may be in line (with other designated successors) to inherit the KLPR assets as part of KLPR’s succession planning programme. This covers all of KLPR’s assets within the Klang Valley, as well as outside the Klang Valley (Hint: Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia and East Malaysia are on the cards – one of metrics by which KLPR measures success has always been the diversity of its base, not just in terms of skill levels, races, age groups or professions, but also in terms of nationalities).
Challenges: Working under tight deadlines and key performance targets is no easy task. You will also be working under extremely demanding and goal-oriented taskmasters. You will be constantly challenged to come up with new innovative ideas and deliver projects. Life is a journey of experiences and working for / with KLPR will be no different – You will be expected to grow as a person.
This job is ideal for:
(1) Someone who is on an interim career break and is willing to try something different for a while. We are looking for someone who can spend at least 6 months on this and is willing to help train a replacement if they are moving on.
(2) Someone who can think fast and act faster. We are looking for A-graders, not in grades, but in terms of passion and ability to deliver.
(3) Someone who is not only passionate about the game, but also reasonably competent at the game*. For certain reasons, this is a key evaluating criteria for a candidate.
(4) Above loving the game, someone who loves our community – and can cherish it, build it and grow it beyond our borders, be it beyond the Klang Valley or beyond Malaysia.
(5) Someone who wants to assist in leading the community forward, cementing the community and building KLPR into Asia’s (not just Malaysia’s) leading cluster of Rooms. To make it happen, you will be an integral part of a Room that is well-capitalised with significant financial support and commitment to invest in the player base.
*To prevent potential conflicts, a selected candidate may be restricted from playing while he / she is coached on playing methods. We want a safe, conservative player, to reflect a safe, conservative pair of hands to help steer the ship.
Project Net: KLPR goes online…
Have received some email enquiries re: our various classified projects, so I’d thought I’d share with you a teaser on what one of the projects is about, i.e. Project Net.
PROJECT NET: The evolution of KLPR tournament play
KLPR goes online. Well, we are already online in the sense of our private forums, this event-related blog, and other sub-sites. But KLPR is taking it up a notch, or two, or two hundred.
Side-note: Vision and Execution. Everything KLPR does is driven by the siblings of success, Vision and Execution. Clarity of any given Vision is key, and ability to execute an agreed Vision in a speedy, effective and efficient manner is equally important. KLPR is thankful for the various inputs and support it has received from Room members on this Vision, as well as other Visions that have been successfully implemented.
Vision: KLPR players gathering online to play a KLPR-hosted tournament. Anytime, anyday, 24 hours, 7 days a week availability.
It’s as succinct as that. The mechanics behind it (the chosen platform, scheduling, buy-ins, payouts, code of conduct enforcement)? Well, leave all that mundane, nitty-gritty parts to us, we’ll work the magic for you. You just have to enjoy the game
Within the next week, all of you will be receiving invitations to participate in this online tournament feature (which will take place on a KLPR off-day). Sidle up to your computer in your pajamas and a hot cup of cocoa and you will follow some simple instructions that we will provide on how to log-on to the chosen platform. You will key in an assigned password and voila! you will be part of KLPR’s first (of many) online tournaments.
Designated project managers: Mark, Sam and Thomas
Chosen platform: To be revealed.
Scheduling: 10pm on a weekday, from the comfort of your home or other cafe. Target date: Monday, 12th October.
Buy-ins: For those with balances at KLPR, there will be an auto-deduct feature. For those without balances at KLPR, you will have to perform an interbank transfer beforehand.
Payouts: Immediately upon conclusion of the tournament, either to your account at KLPR or to your bank account.
Code of conduct: Apart from the fact that KLPR is already highly selective in its membership, there will be enforcement of a strict code of conduct throughout the tournament.
Is this going to be challenging? Yes, certainly. There’s a high probability of failure for Project Net (that’s us, managing your expectations). This is not a new idea. Countless others, more brilliant and talented than all of us combined, have thought of it. Many have tried. But none have succeeded.
Well, hopefully, KLPR, with your support, will succeed where others have faltered. We have already thought of how it will launch, how it will work, and what the post-tournament report will be like (we will put up screenshots, for example).
Now, all that’s left, is for us to make it work
Look out for that invitation in your email / msg-box.
Hajdeby!

This chair will be used to hold Danny's sexy bum
Please bear with the assorted boxes* lining the corridors of KLPR as we are in the middle of refurbishing KLPR. As part of the refurbishment, and because we care about your comfort, we have replaced our existing Herman chairs with Hajdeby swivel chairs
http://www.ikea.com.my/catalog/product_display.asp?art=60173494-21478-3-9-525298973-67311804
At first, we chose the swivel chair for the dealers as we felt it would facilitate dealing. But the initial trial of the chairs proved positive, hence we have decided to replace out Herman chairs in favour of Hajdeby swivel chairs. Apparently “Hajdeby” means “deal”
Please note that the weight restriction on a Hajdeby swivel chair is 100kg, so we will maintain Herman chairs as well, for our larger-sized players as well as Vicky (just joking!)
*If you need boxes, come get them
Vicky has booked some for the kids in her kindergarden class.
3rd Oct: Pink Haven Map and SnG results
Pink Haven is now open
(1) Who is managing Pink Haven?
Thomas is managing Pink Haven.
(2) Are Pink Haven’s house rules and policies exactly identical to KLPR?
The overall experience is the same but Pink Haven will have its own set of house rules and policies. Pink Haven’s house rules and policies may be largely based on KLPR’s house rules and policies. There will be differences. For example, while KLPR has a no-rake policy for tables with 5 players or less*, this does not apply to Pink Haven.
*Some players may still be unaware of the no-rake-if-5-players-or-less policy. KLPR does not rake tables where there are 5 players or less. This is measured by the number of chip stacks present on the table. Once there are less than 6 players bought-in on a table, that table is rake-free. This only applies if there’s only 1 table running (if there were 2 tables running, with 6 and 5 players respectively, both would be raked, though this is rare – in most situations when there are 2 tables running, with 6 and 5 players respectively, we would cut into 1 table of 10, with a 1-person queue).
(3) How do I get to Pink Haven?

Find your way to Pink Haven, a slice of Poker Heaven

Another map, we can pick you up at Starbucks and walk you into Pink Haven
For Pink Haven’s opening, we played an SnG with a 50 buy-in. With blind levels doubling every 10 minutes, the eventual finishers were:
1st: Daniel
2nd: Jhin
3rd: Vicky
with Mark in bubble position
25th October: KLPR’s H.O.R.S.E. event

The 2 perpetually smiling faces in the Room square up to each other
Mr Bean. He’s been to the US, to Paris, and now he’s coming to KL.
Doraemon. He’s from Japan. Like Danny, he likes Japanese chicks
Mr Bean. He likes to holiday in Hawaii.
Danny. He likes girls who are kawaii*
Mr Bean. He’s got long legs.
Danny. He likes long legs.
Mr Bean. He’s got a teddy bear.
Danny. He’s like a teddy bear.
Mr Bean. He likes to eat chicken rice.
Danny. He likes to eat chicken…
Mr Bean. He likes to drive a Mini.
Danny. He likes girls in a Mini-anything.
The 2 buddies in the Room are squaring up into one of the biggest, best heads-up matches to-date.
HBO wanted the rights to televise this heads-up match, but we declined. They can take their money and go elsewhere! You don’t have to subscribe to pay-per-view, and you can get ringside seats! We don’t have ringside girls, but we got Christine, and she will have to do…
10,000 chips, 10-minute intervals, 2 buddies, 1 prize. This 2nd October, live in your very own KL Poker Room, come find out if Mr Bean will send Doraemon packing to Disneyland, or if Doraemon will produce pocket aces from his magic pocket**.
*Kawaii refers to cuteness in Japanese culture. For more details, refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuteness_in_Japanese_culture
**Little known facts about Doraemon:
(1) Doraemon is actually a robot sent back in time by Nobita Nobi’s great-great grandson Sewashi to improve Nobita’s circumstances so that his descendants may enjoy a better future.
(2) Doraemon has a pocket from which he produces many gadgets, medicines, and tools from the future. The pocket is called yojigen-pocket, or 4-dimensional pocket. Often, after Nobita’s pleading and/or goading, Doraemon produces a futuristic gadget out of his aforementioned pouch to help Nobita fix his problem, enact revenge, or flaunt to his friends.
(3) Although he can hear perfectly well, Doraemon has no ears: his robotic ears were eaten by a mouse, giving him a series-long phobia of the creatures.
Win RM200 in our Hand Analysis Contest, sponsored by Ben and KLPR
Dear KLPR members,
Hand Analysis Contest with sponsorship by Ben and KLPR
Ben recently participated in a NLHE game. Read through the game description below, and guess the hands of the UTG+1, Cutoff and Button. If you guess correctly, and if you put forward a rationale for your guess, you will receive
(a) RM100 Isetan voucher from Ben
(b) RM100 credit with the Room for use on our NLHE table.
Free entry! Take your best guess.
Game description:
7 players; blinds RM100-RM200; minimum buyin RM15k, maximum buyin 50k.
Ben is in middle position with AQs (spades).
Pre-flop:
UTG+1 bets 800.
Ben (with AQs) raises to 2,000.
Cutoff re-raises to 5,600.
Button calls.
UTG+1 calls.
Ben calls.
All else fold.
Pot = 22,700
Ben’s guess/observations:
At least one or more of these players would be holding premium hands…AK or AJ.
I ruled out any premium pocket pairs. Small or medium pairs maybe…but unlikely…
UTG+1 is a solid and tight player….aggressive when holding premium hands Stack size….RM 26k
Cutoff is a loose and aggressive player…stack size 50k.
Button being a charted accountant is a very conservative player but tendency towards being a calling station….stack size 32k.
Ben’s stack size….36k.
Flop is Ad Kc 9h
UTG+1 checks
Ben checks
Cutoff checks
Button checks
Pot = 22,700
Ben’s guess/observations:
At this stage I don’t know where I stand…whether I am having the best hand…or not.
I need to know whether anyone is holding a AK.
Turn is 5h
Board is Ad Kc 9h 5h
Ben holds Qs As
UTG+1 checks
Ben raises to 4,500
Cut-off re-raises to 11,000
Button calls immediately.
After a long pause…UTG+1 shoves all in ….about 20,000.
Ben’s guess/observations:
It is obvious at least two players are having an ace pair. The question was whether anyone having AK….and someone for sure shall be on a draw. It does not matter who.
My guess… cutoff is having top pair with flush draw
button is holding KJ or KQ suited or something in that range.perhaps with a strong draw..
UTG1 is the one having AK.
If UTG1 is having AK, with an AQ I am already drawing dead….the pot odds do not matter anymore….
Ben folds.
Cutoff re-raises all-in
Button calls.
River is Qc.
Board is Ad Kc 9h 5h Qc.
